VENUE:    Wandle Park Café
DATE:       Sunday 17th September 2017
TIME:        12 noon

Agenda
Enrolment of members
Financial Report
Summary of activities since last year’s AGM
Review of the Constitution of The Friends
Nomination and voting on of new Committee members
Any Other Business

Currently we only have an acting Committee as no one was elected at last year’s A.G.M due to insufficient attendance; so all positions are up for election. (The minimum attendance currently needs to be at least ten members.)

We need to elect a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and up to 7 other Committee members, some of whom can have special interests such as Environmental matters, the Community Garden, I.T and website or the Skate-park. We also need to vote to adopt some minor changes to the Constitution (as shown here).

If you are interested in helping either as a member or on the Committee, please come along on the 17th of September.  Prospective Committee members will need someone to nominate them and a seconder.  It is especially important that we form into an active and viable group as, unfortunately, Andrew (Dickinson’s) Lottery funded post ends next year.  It will then be up to Friends to sustain and develop all the excellent Park activities that Andrew has set up.

Hoping we get a good attendance to keep the Park a wonderful place.

Master Gardener programme in Croydon

Master Gardener programmeAre you a master gardener – or would you like to learn how to improve your gardening skills?

If so, why not get involved with the new Master Gardener programme in Croydon.

Come and meet Liza Scholefield, the co-ordinator of the Master Gardener programme in Croydon, on Tuesday 25th August to talk about the programme – come along to the Wandle Park cafe for 11am.

Liza Scholefield explains more:
“This exciting partnership between national charity Garden Organic and Public Health Croydon will see experienced volunteers support local residents to start growing their own food. These volunteer Master Gardeners, trained and supported by Garden Organic, will be working in community gardens and growing schemes around the borough. They will be sharing their skills with members of the community who are identified as being likely to benefit from gardening and food growing.

“Over the next few weeks we’ll be:
• Looking for people to join us as Master Gardeners. We are looking for at least a couple of years of food-growing experience and a passion to share that knowledge with others. In return volunteers will receive free training and resources from Garden Organic, including a two-day induction course, held locally.
• We’re also looking for enthusiastic Food Buddies to engage the community and spread the word about the value of food growing. They don’t need to be gardeners, as we’ll be offering them training too, to take their own growing skills forward.
• Making links with services who can refer people to us from residents, community groups, third sector agencies, treatment teams, medical settings etc.

“Anyone who would benefit from getting outside and active, meeting like-minded people and learning more about growing delicious and nutritious food is welcome!”

If you’re interested in joining as a Master Gardener or a Food Buddy, or in referring people into the scheme, or if you have any questions, get in touch with Liza at lscholefield@gardenorganic.org.uk or 07584 474778, or come along on the 25th August at 11am at the cafe in Wandle Park..
