NOTICE OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE FRIENDS OF WANDLE PARK

VENUE: WANDLE PARK CAFE

 Do you love your local park and want to know how you can support its activities?    Are you already a Friend of this volunteer led community group or interested in becoming one? Want to find out what we have been up to the last year?

Please join us on Sunday 26th of January 2020 in The Wandle Park Cafe from 12 noon until 1 pm for our Annual General Meeting. As well as electing the committee for this year it is a great opportunity to meet other park users and local residents or find out how you can get involved with our regular activities such as the community garden.

The draft Agenda is as follows:-

  2.  Agree minutes from previous AGM and matters arising
  3. Subscriptions:- payment of £1 per head for current year (1 Sept 2019 to 31 Aug 2020) and proposal and vote on new subscription rate for future years (from Sept 2020).

  8. Deciding the date of first meeting of new Committee

ASC Art House Croydon Open Studios September 2019

Then why don’t you check out this free Open Studios event running on the 13-14 September.

The artists, designers and makers of Art House Croydon are opening the doors to
their studios this September for the first Open Studio event at this exciting new
creative hub for Croydon.
The building is owned by ASC, one of the largest artist studio providers in
London and opened in 2018. It was developed as part of Mayor Sadiq Khan’s
creative enterprise zone initiative. This aims to support the regeneration of
neglected suburbs of greater London by encouraging artists and creatives to live
and work in these areas by providing them with affordable work space.
Comprising of 104 brand new purpose built art studios, the building houses a
plethora of diverse creative talent across art, design, craft and making.
Disciplines include but are not limited to painting, sculpture, print making, knit
wear design, photography, upholstery, embroidery, ceramics, filmmaking and
many more. The 50+ participating creatives will be in their studios available to
discuss their practice and show their wares.
There will be an opening night event on Friday the 13th of September with food
and drinks from 6pm to 9pm and the event continues on Saturday the 14th from
12-5pm.

Wandle Fortnight 2019

Come and join the Friends of Wandle Park during Wandle Fortnight which is a celebration of the Wandle Valley run by the community for the community.  We have three activities going on in Wandle Park so please join us!

Saturday 14th September 11am-3pm

Join Harold Stone at the pond in Wandle Park for pond dipping activities aimed at families. Have a go at using nets and identifying some of the invertebrates and plants. Note all children MUST be accompanied by parent/carer. Wandle Pond Dipping SOCIAL MEDIA (2)

 

Sunday 15th September  Pond clearance with The Conservation Volunteers 10am – 2pm

Join the Friends group and TCV’s Croydon Ponds Project as we aim to give the pond area  al bit of TLC with  vegetation clearance to keep the pond open, some litter picking and maintenance along the Wandle.  There will be a break for lunch so  bring your own packed lunch or head for the park cafe. No need to book. Just turn up on the day! All equipment and waders provided but please wear appropriate clothing.

Meet at the Bandstand near the pond in Wandle Park. Please note this activity is not suitable for children.

Thursday 19th September  TCV Amphibian ID and Habitat Management training 7pm to 9pm   Meet at the Wandle Cafe. 

Interested in pondlife? Get to know your frogs from your toads, and how to effectively care for them. Wear appropriate clothing for outdoor activity.

Community Garden Open Day, Wandle Park Wednesday 24th July 11am – 3pm

Part of the Mayor of London’s National Park City Festival

Join us for a family-friendly session in the community garden on Wednesday 24th July.

Drop in any time between 11am and 3pm. Activities include: identifying plants, finding out about what you can grow in a small space, tips about looking after plants and harvesting from them – plus tasting and sampling some of the produce.

Free event, just turn up, all ages welcome – from novice to expert! Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

You will find us near the Cornwall Road park entrance  near the Wandle Park cafe.

The Putney and Wimbledon Brass Band play in The Bandstand, Wandle Park Sunday 21st July 3pm – 5pm

The Putney and Wimbledon Brass Band will be playing in the Bandstand in Wandle Park on Sunday 21st July from 3pm – 5pm which is part of the Mayor of London’s National Park City Festival.

Join us for an afternoon of entertainment with the Putney and Wimbledon Brass Band which will be playing a mix of popular and traditional tunes, having fun while doing so! During the interval, local children and young people will be playing their chosen brass instrument for the audience. If your child would like to play ( all levels) during the interval then please email Catherine  at  chairwandleparkfriends@gmail.com for more details.

This event is free and open to all. Limited seating will be available or bring your own blanket to sit on.

Words and Music in the Rose Garden Sunday 21st July 1pm – 3pm

‘Words and Music in the Rose Garden’ is part of the Mayor of London’s National Park City Festival.

Come and discover London’s amazing outdoors with free events across the city from 20 to 28 July. The Mayor of London’s National Park City Festival invites you to discover London’s amazing outdoors with events across the city, from outdoor fitness sessions and live performances to bee-keeping and open water events for the family. The Mayor of London is working with the National Park City Foundation, other partners and Londoners to make London the world’s first National Park City. Join a festival event from 20 to 28 July, and let’s together make our city greener, healthier and wilder.

Enjoy an afternoon of poetry, spoken word, songs and music, in the lovely setting of the Rose Garden in Wandle Park on Sunday 21st July 1pm to 3pm.

Light refreshments provided by the Wandle Park cafe. This is a free event but please book a place. Aimed primarily at senior citizens but their families and carers are also welcome.
