Poetry

Poetry in the Bandstand came out of the Wandle Park Revival Festival on 6th July 2013.  Members of Croydon’s Poets Anonymous gathered at the Bandstand to read their poems before the thousands who came to the re-opening celebrations.  Many of the poems were inspired by the setting of the beautifully restored Victorian park and the restored to the surface River Wandle as it now flows gently between the banks which have quickly established their own flora and fauna.  The poetry was set off by the marvellous acoustics of the new bandstand which is also designed in a Victorian style.

Poetry in the Bandstand is now a regular feature of Wandle Park celebrations.  The aim of The Friends of Wandle Park is to encourage a wider participation and enjoyment of poetry about the park and the river so your submissions would be welcome.

The next poetry festival in the bandstand to look forward to is the 1st July 2017.
